A Future for THRIVE

11/20/23 Update
THRIVE has officially relocated! While we are operating out of a partial construction zone, we have successfully opened The Market at THRIVE and have begun meeting clients in the Financial Wing. The Free Bookstore will open in December 2023 and workshops and classes will be scheduled to be held in the Community Engagement Space for 2024. Our Capital Campaign is still underway and we have raised $1M toward our $1.25M goal. While we rushed to open the new facility out of the urgency of the present need in our community, we are continuing to raise funds to reach our goal so that our operating costs in our new space can be low. Over the past 5 years we've seen record growth and yet the demand rises. 2023 Marks our 50th year serving our Peninsula Community and we couldn't find a more suitable way to celebrate than furthering our outreach and expanding our services.

Some of the features to look forward to at our new location will include:

The Market at THRIVE - The Peninsula's first free-food grocery store. It will look and feel like a supermarket and will be a dignifying shopping experience, open to everyone.

A dedicated Financial Wing - A professional space allowing clients and coaches a dedicated space to learn to take transformative steps towards a more stable future.

A Raised Bed Garden - A nourishing place for our community to learn and GROW.

A Community Engagement space for outreach, education, work groups, meetings, and socials.

And a Free Bookstore in partnership w/REACH, inc. Families will have the opportunity to "shop" for new children's books.

Our goal is to raise $1.25 Million dollars to fully fund the purchase and renovation. This will ensure that our resources stay completely committed to the mission of serving our community.

What is the capital campaign project? A new headquarters for THRIVE Peninsula will relocate our operations to expand our services and will include: The Market at THRIVE - A FREE Marketplace, the first of its kind in our area. It will look and feel like a market and will be a dignifying shopping experience, open to everyone. A dedicated Financial Wing - A professional space allowing clients and coaches a dedicated space to learn to take transformative steps towards a more stable future. Raised Bed Garden - A nourishing place for our community to learn and GROW. A Community Engagement space for community outreach, education, work groups, meetings, and socials. And a Free Bookstore in partnership w/REACH, inc. Families will have the opportunity to "shop" for new children's books. Our goal is to raise $1.25 Million dollars to fully fund the purchase and renovation of the new space. This will ensure that our resources stay completely committed to the mission of serving our community.

Why is this project necessary? We’ve vastly outgrown our current facility, and with more space we will be able to expand our food distribution to more people. Providing them nutritious options with dignity and personal choice that you enjoy at a grocery store. Grow our own food. Expand program outreach for financial assistance and education. Offer a dedicated space for community connection, and so much more. Since moving into our current facility in 2016 food insecurity has remained a demonstrated concern for our community only exacerbated by the pandemic and its economic ramifications. Over the course of 5 years, we’ve more than tripled our food assistance yet the demand rises and consistently we’re only able to help about 10% of the requests for help. In 2022, THRIVE Peninsula served 18,011 people through the distribution of 380,234 pounds of food from our pantry and $540,225 invested through our financial assistance programs. All in the name of our mission to stabilize households and serve people in crisis. We do this with the aid of 80 Church Partners, a growing list of Community Organizations and Businesses. And the strength and dedication of 165 weekly volunteers who logged 15,641 hours of service in 2022.

How will this change THRIVE Peninsula? The Market at THRIVE will give us space to increase food distribution adding back the shopping experience for our clients but also maintain our pre-pack and delivery programs. We will prioritize healthy choice options. The additional space will include a walk-in fridge/freezer, allow us to utilize more food rescue, and store more shelf stable items and dry goods. In 2022 we served over 16,000 people from our pantry. We estimate within the two years, we will grow to serve 30,000 annually. The Raised Bed Garden will allow us opportunity to grow seasonal produce and educate. A dedicated Financial Wing allows space for private financial counseling, elevating our services with a dignified focus for our financial clients to take transformative steps towards a stable future. The Community Engagement space will house a collaborative workspace, and allow us room for community outreach, education, work groups, meetings, and socials. Further, we are excited about the opportunity to partner w/REACH, inc. to offer a Free Bookstore to our clients. This will give families access to free children’s books and promote the love and joy of reading. These are just some of the premier upgrades we are excited about. There are many more thoughtful details and additions we’re incorporating. Like a separate volunteer entrance and upgrades to the volunteer appreciation station. The addition of a refrigerated box truck to boost our capacity to collect large scale provisions and stock the Market.

How much fundraising is still needed to support this project? Our goal is to raise $1.25 Million dollars by 2025 to fully fund the purchase and renovation and we are curretly at 70% of that target. This will ensure that our resources stay completely committed to the mission of serving our community. Do you want to help THRIVE Peninsula fund this project and connect more people to the stability they need for themselves and their families to THRIVE? Please consider making a donation today!

Will there be program interruptions? THRIVE Peninsula expects to stage this project so there are minimal interruptions to core services.
