Celebration of Kaitlyn's Fund Event Photos

June 23, 2022

On Thursday, June 23, THRIVE hosted a special open house in honor of the newly established THRIVE Peninsula Community Hardship Fund in memory of Kaitlyn Smitter. Kaitlyn’s friends and family gathered to remember her spirit and laughter. The evening ended with the reading of a special poem and a butterfly release as a way to cherish her life. Here are some pictures from the event.

About the Fund
Medical expenses can pose a significant hardship for families who must balance unexpected costs on top of their regular household bills. This fund was established to bolster THRIVE’s capacity to provide aid to struggling families in our community and offer hope in a time of uncertainty.

We receive hundreds of calls from families each year who are facing complicated decisions concerning their family’s health and well-being. Many risk hunger, homelessness, and utility cut-off due to the high cost of medical bills or loss of income due to time in recovery. These families begin to accumulate past due bills and enter a cycle of late fees and interest charges that can feel endless, all while trying to heal.

The THRIVE Peninsula Community Hardship Fund in loving memory of Kaitlyn Smitter was established in 2022. Kaitlyn’s family understands the difficulties families face when living with medical conditions or setbacks and the financial burden it can create. That’s why this fund was established: to help neighbors facing the unknown. Click here to read more about Kaitlyn’s story.

Each year, we receive qualifying applications from approximately 400 families who desperately need support from this fund. With your gift, you can become a source of hope and light for families’ whose outlook feels dark.
