✨ FUN Facts about The Market at THRIVE
This year, our free grocery store will serve 35,000 food insecure people across the Peninsula. 70% of all recipients live in the City of Newport News. The Market is open 6-days per week and offers flexible pickup food lockers to be accessible to everyone.

The Market at THRIVE launched in November 2023 as the area’s first free grocery store, in partnership with Food Lion

THRIVE distributes 1,100 boxes of cereal each month

Food is supplied by donors, grocery store partners (mainly Food Lion), the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, corporate groups, civic groups, and through THRIVE purchasing

More than 16,000 volunteer hours are dedicated to running The Market and food delivery each year

The Garden at THRIVE grows about 800 pounds of produce annually, which is distributed through The Market

THRIVE operates a satellite pantry in partnership with SafeHaven Empowerment Center in Denbigh, held every Thursday.

For Hispanic Heritage Month, THRIVE will launch a Hispanic Section of The Market which will host culturally appropriate foods. We ask the community to donate items to help us keep it stocked year-round.
